Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara (UINSU) is a public university in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. It was established on 19 November 1973, as IAIN SU, and has been known as UINSU since 16 October 2014. According to PTKIN 2024, UINSU is ranked among the Top 6 Islamic Universities in Indonesia and the Top 30 Islamic Universities Worldwide.
UINSU’s institutional vision is to be a ‘Smart Islamic University’ with a motto that emphasizes the integration of knowledge and Islamic values. The Rector, Prof. Dr. Nurhayati, M.Ag., also emphasizes the importance of harmony between knowledge and adab (manners) in the academic environment.
Accommodating around 35,000 students and thousands of lecturers and support staff, UINSU also forges collaborations with various academic institutions and industries, both locally and internationally.
